Wall Street Journal says we’re pretty good…

One of my friends in the Wharton East program (Andrew…cool and funny guy who takes pictures (but I think he’s a p&s guy)) sent me this link today: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122244975223379303.html - it says that we’re the #2 EMBA program in the world.

For the curious…it says that Kellogg is the #1 EMBA program in the world.  That’s fine, I’ll take that.

The high ranking was largely because companies ranked Wharton and Kellogg the highest among all EMBA programs.  Actually, Wharton was ranked #1 by companies and received top marks by students for its curriculum.  Kellogg was #2 by companies.

In terms of what EMBA graduates said matters most in choosing a program, the overwhelming majority was the school reputation.

I’ve said this before but I feel that the best thing that an EMBA program can do is to educate the public that it’s degree is the same as the full time program’s degree.  If you can do that, the reputation of the full time program will carry the reputation of the EMBA program.

Obviously the reputation is pretty clear that Wharton is the best school for finance and Kellogg is the best school for marketing. But reputations aside, both schools have world class professors in pretty much all disciplines.

Ranking are generally not all that useful in measuring a school since selecting the right school is a subjective experience….but it’s still nice to be ranked pretty high.  I can usually find a few faults with most rankings and in this one I think that Chicago and UCLA are ranked a little too low.  I won’t go into what schools I think are ranked a little too high…
